America and the Free World’s enemies have most always been megalomaniacal tyrannical dictatorships whom we have defeated thanks in large part to free market capitalism-produced prosperity that made the building of a military force second to none possible, the wisdom of our leaders to build and maintain such a force and the courage of leaders and Americans to fight against tyranny. Witness the defeats of the Kaiser, Nazi Germany, Imperial Japan and the Soviet Union, respectively.
This past week Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) echoed the alarms of many against the mindless sequestration budget deal of the past four years that has required equal budget increases (there are no actual cuts in either from year to year despite persistent Beltway speak by politicians and news media alike) in domestic and military outlays, respectively. This after the draconian actual military cuts made by President Barack Obama and the Democrats when they held Congress and the White House in 2009-10. Despite the takeover of the Senate by Republicans after last November’s election, it will still require that the GOP leadership garner the courage to play government shutdown-chicken with a Commander in Chief intent upon further weakening America’s defenses, in order to rebuild a U.S. Navy smaller than before WWII.
It was essential to the defeat of fascist enemies in that war that President Franklin Delano Roosevelt join hands, despite past labor dispute differences, with GM’s William Knudsen to mobilize the building of the Arsenal of Democracy. Sadly, the U.S. doesn’t have a Chief Executive today intent upon identifying the existential threat of Islamist fascism, much less with the determination FDR had of insisting upon the unconditional surrender of our enemies.
DeVine History in Real Time this week explores events 100 and 210 years ago, respectively, that prevented the tyrannical takeover of Europe before an FDR, Harry Truman, Ronald Reagan or even a Woodrow Wilson had the chance to stave off another Dark Age.
Last year we praised the French troops who fought off the Germans on the Marne River at the direction of General Joseph Joffre with saving Europe from tyranny during the 100th anniversary of the Guns of August beginning of the Great War in 1914 that would later be re-named WWI after Pearl Harbor in 1941 made Hitler and Tojo’s war global. Never mind that the French and Indian or Seven Year’s War of the mid-18th Century was arguably the first global conflict.
This month marks 100 years since a young First Lord of the Admiralty, Winston Churchill directed the Royal Navy to chase the German Kaiser’s upstart navy back to their ports after the late January 1915 Battle of Dogger Bank, the North Sea-equivalent of the Battle of the Marne, in preventing an early German victory over the forces against their attempted hegemony.
On New Years Day 1915 a German submarine had sent shock waves throughout Britain and France when its torpedo sunk the British battleship HMS Formidable, sending 546 sailors to their deaths. Later that month German battle cruisers shelled three towns on England’s east coast, killing a number of civilians. Churchill’s response at Dogger Bank, while inconclusive, did drive German warships back to their ports, thus enabling an effective blockade that made Allied victory possible four years later.
Of course, for Britain to be able to thwart Germany at sea they had to have a formidable navy. That they did control the seas of an empire in 1915 upon which the sun never set, was made possible by their navy’s seminal victory over a tyrannical Napoleon’s French navy and Spain’s Armada in the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805.
The French Revolution, commenced with the storming of the Bastille in 1789, was inspired by some who idolized George Washington’s American version against Britain. It quickly degenerated into a godless, mob-propelled blood bath that only a Napoleon could tamp down. Sadly, he converted the revolution into a military state of conquest, albeit with a Napoleonic Code that years decades later would deliver some good fruits of the throwing off of an absolute monarchy. But in 1805, France was just just beginning its domination of Europe, with only a British navy standing in its way.
Enter Lord Horatio Nelson and a Royal Navy seriously outgunned by the combination of the Spanish and French. Lord Nelson lost his life off the coast of Trafalgar, Spain, on October 21, 1805, but without his navy’s victory that day 210 years ago, there would never have been a Waterloo 10 years later.
Today, America is in retreat under the leadership of a re-elected president who promised retreat. Obama gave away the Bush Surge gains in Iraq as too many in the Democratic Party denounce patriots like American Sniper Chris Kyle. Congress can’t compel any Commander in Chief to fire one bullet against an enemy. But they can, if they have the will and the courage, prevent the gutting of military forces necessary to defend America and the Free World when voters next elect a President determined to so defend us.
This means that House Speaker John Boehner and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell will have to love America more than their jobs and fear Russia, China, Iran and Radical Islam more than MSNBC.
“What our forefathers with so much difficulty secured, do not basely relinquish.” – William Bradford
Seventy years ago today on January 27, 1945, Soviet forces – allied with the United States in WWII against Nazi Germany and advancing towards Berlin on the Eastern Front as American, French and British troops advanced from the west after the Battle of the Bulge – reached the now infamous Auschwitz-Birkeanau concentration camp in Poland and liberated some 200,000 prisoners that had not yet met the fate of the approximately 1.5 million Jews killed there as part of Adolph Hitler’s Final Solution.
Within months, the Soviet Communists – of terror, forced famine, gulag archipelago and their own brand of purges and mass murder fame – would erect an Iron Curtain across Poland and all of Eastern Europe, thus de-liberating, i.e. enslaving, them in a Red Hell much larger than any Germans ever erected.
But there are Holocausts and there are Holocausts. The Left never let us hate on the non-national socialists and be admonished not to forget their mass murders in the tens of millions since if only Stalin (no pictures of his mass murder) had hired better bureaucrats the desired leftist Utopia may have arisen. Democrats invented the “McCarthy Era” and vilified Richard Nixon and Whittaker Chambers, lest the legacies of fellow Democrats be sullied. Democrats not named Harry S. Truman and John F. Kennedy regularly Blamed America First, attacked anti-Communists as extremists, took the Soviet side for nuclear freeze appeasement, supported Sandinistas in Nicaragua and otherwise tried to undermine the ultimately successful “peace through strength” strategy of President Ronald Reagan that led to the felling of the Iron Curtain, including especially the Berlin Wall.
We were, though, rightfully and righteously admonished never to forget Hitler’s holocaust. Sadly, too many in the Democratic Party have forgotten even that version, if one judges said Democrats by their actions.
DeVine History in Real Time
This week, we have been admonished to detest Speaker of the House John Boehner for daring to invite Israeli Prime Minister BiBi Netanyahu to speak to a joint session of Congress in March, without first obtaining President Barack Obama’s permission. Yes, the same Obama Administration that regularly usurps the power of the House and Senate to make laws. Yes, the same Commander in Chief that regularly apologizes to a Muslim World that largely defines itself by its desire that Jews and the Nation of Israel cease to exist. Yes, the same U.S. Chief Executive that regularly snubs the loyal America ally and only free nation in the Middle East in public and calls their leader “chickensh**” in private.
The same Barack Hussein Obama who begged to have lunch with Iran’s ruling mullahs as they mowed down innocent Green Revolution liberty-seekers in the streets of Tehran. Yes, even the same Iranian regime that vows to eliminate Israel from the face of the earth as Obama makes concessions allowing Iran to develop nuclear weapons and missiles that would enable Iran to do just that. The same Islamic nation of Iran that, like Saddam’s Islamist Baathists, cut their independence-teeth on Nazi doctrine during and after WWII.
One of the main reasons Israel exists today, with President Truman being the first world leader to recognize them, and even with United Nations approval, was so the Zionist nation could be a refuge from further Holocausts. We must never forget what European socialists did in the the USSR and Germany: mass murder of Jews, Christians and anyone else that stood in their way of wielding totalitarian power, even if it required genocide of ethnic and religious groups.
The same evil mass-murdering, genocidal movement is back; this time defining the threat to its power as the infidel who dares not submit to Allah and The Prophet Mohammed’s Koran and Hadith-prescribed women-enslaving Sharia law that also, by the way, prohibits the creation of any, even flattering, image of said prophet, not to mention unflattering cartoons or the soiling of Korans, i.e. the United States and the Free World it used to lead before President Obama became a citizen of the world equating Greek exceptionalism with our City on a Hill and praying that “the future not belong to those that slander the prophet of Islam. For the record, how would one slander or otherwise defame the name of a pedophile rapist that forces people to submit to his version of God or die?
Remember also September 11, 2001
After 9/11, I well remember Darryl Worley’s country song, “Have You Forgotten?”, released soon after Democrats started the “Bush-Lied” Era, thus encouraging terrorists to wait us out in Iraq and Afghanistan until a Democrat could win the White House and surrender.
They waited. Obama won the White House, and immediately went on an apology tour to the Muslim World before yes, surrendering to those who want to accomplish more Holocausts for Jews, Christians, gays, Lesbians, and anyone who will not submit to their Koran and Sharia. The former Holocausts were committed by atheists named Lenin, Stalin, Hitler and Mao. The present versions are being sought by alleged monotheists in Iran, Gaza, Syria, and other Muslim Brotherhoods.
Before President Obama whines of foreign policy protocol against a coequal branch of the U.S. government, would it be too much to ask that he remember the Holocaust and 9/11 and act accordingly to prevent more of them? I think so. One way would be to honor Israel by inviting their leader to the White House and accompanying him to Capitol Hill himself.
“One man with courage makes a majority.” – Andrew Jackson
Before Andrew Jackson won the presidency in 1828, a “King Caucus” of congressional leaders on Capitol Hill chose party nominees in a tidy, insular way as a tidy, insular National Bank directed national economic affairs for the benefit of wealthy cronies. Having won the popular vote in 1824 only to lose in the Electoral College thanks to the political maneuverings of his King Caucus member opponent Henry Clay, Jackson campaigned relentlessly for expansion of the voting franchise. Turnout rose from 27% in 1824 to 57% in 1828, thus ushering in an Old Hickory to beat down the elites in D.C., so that We the People’s voice could be heard and acted upon to expand our liberty-fueled pursuits of happiness.
Before Barack Obama was inaugurated on January 20, 2009, citizens of the United States hadn’t been subject to a King as Chief Executive since the Battle of Yorktown vanquished the realm of King George III in 1781 in the Thirteen Colonies. Then came illegal deep water oil drilling moratoriums, amendments to Obamacare via executive fiat, a war on coal via illegal EPA regulation promulgation and Dream Acts of illegal amnesty via gross illegal usurpation of legislative power.
Twice, tea partier conservative and other Americans returned Republicans to power in the U.S. House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate to stop Obamacare, Obamanomics and, in short, Obama Democrats’ policies that have chased millions of workers, small businesses and good paying jobs out of the work force while delivering a boom to their Wall Street cronies. Voters expected Speaker John Boehner’s House since 2010 and Majority Leader Mitch McConnell’s Senate since last November’s 2014 mid-term election to at least stop funding and otherwise enabling Obama’s illegal and failed policies.
Yet, even before the newly elected Republicans could be sworn in, Boehner and McConnell formed a Lame Duck Caucus with King Obama to sell out the first 10 months of the New all-GOP Congress with a Cromnibus budget funding Obamacare, the political IRS, failed VA, job-killing EPA, albeit with a promise to “oppose” amnesty. Then, after being sworn, they kill a popular anti-late-term abortion bill to protect murder victims in the womb from pain after the 20th week of gestation and float a gas tax-hike trial balloon..
Betrayals since 2010 continue to mount, no matter how many historic landslides tea partiers deliver to the GOP. Whether this is because Boehner and McConnell still fear government shutdown-blame more than Jews ever feared Hitler or because they secretly favor Big Government and amnesty for cheap foreign labor, matters not.
Liberal Democrats will never be part of the solution to the problems that their policies have wrought. Nor will timid Republicans, but at least the latter can be whipped into voting the right way. But they won’t be so whipped by any Senate or House version.
No, the only way even a GOP-controlled Congress gets whipped into halting the march of totalitarian socialist policies, much less into repealing such laws and to advance policies that liberate Americans, will be after a hickory stick-whipping by one conservative Republican man or woman with courage in the White House, in the tradition of Andrew Jackson.
Hopefully a Rubio, Walker, Jindal, Cruz, Martinez, Haley or Pence can be that hickory-wielding man or woman in 2017. Until then, prepare for the worst.
“One man with courage makes a majority.” – Andrew Jackson
“We turn the page…the shadow of crisis has passed and the state of the union is strong.” Before these lines, President Barack Hussein Obama recalled fifteen years of terror on our shores, wars and a vicious recession.
At least he went on to admit that it’s still a “hard time for many.” Yes, especially for Democrats whose Obama page turned them out of more House seats, the majority in the Senate and an overwhelming majority of state legislatures.
Sadly, hard times continue for the victims of the slowest so-called “recovery” since the Great Depression, many of whom no longer look for non-existent jobs and thus are not counted as “looking for work” in the increasingly irrelevant U-3 “official” unemployment rate, now at 5.6% and touted as evidence of the passing of a crisis “shadow”. Or does Chief Executive Obama still refer back to the post-housing-bust banking crisis that ended thanks to TARP, signed by President George W. Bush. Or does Commander in Chief Obama refer to the dearth of follow-on attacks on the homeland after 9/11, prevented by intel gathered at Gitmo via harsh interrogations and trained terrorists killed or captured in Iraq and Afghanistan that he opposed? The same Gitmo even Democrats would let him close but from which he releases sleeper cell agents that were poised for post-9/11 attacks on the Fruited Plain.Continue reading
Thanks to the Baptist preacher whose life we celebrate on today’s national holiday, America overcame racist Jim Crow laws that prevented millions of Blacks from voting, otherwise exercising their civil rights under the Constitution and from pursuing happiness via economic Liberty.
Nearly fifty-one years ago President Lyndon Baines Johnson repeated the title of the anthem of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King’s movement, “We Shall Overcome”, before a joint session of Congress when he proposed the 1964 Civil Rights Act.Almost fifty years ago this year that anthem would be sung again at Selma, Alabama when King, Atlanta’s John Lewis and other non-violent marchers for the right to vote would be attacked by police on “Bloody Sunday.” The 1965 Voting Rights Act was passed later that year, thus overcoming yet another obstacle to equal treatment under the laws.
Moreover, much of Dr. King’s dream of integration beyond the realm of legalities has also been realized.Continue reading
Given Juan’s own Enough book bemoaning Jackson and Sharpton-style victimology, no way he can believe what he has written concerning alleged “racial politics in plain sight” exercised by Republicans in the last election. It used to be beneath Mr. Williams to stoop to such baseless conjecture.
It is Democrats that proudly favor and pass race-based Jim Crow laws today and since just after the ink on the the 1965 Voting Rights Act was passed 50 years ago and for the 100 years before said ink was dry on the 1964 Civil Rights Act when signed 49 years ago.
In his post-election missive Williams cites a liberal immigration advocate and Democrat congressman’s “suspicions” that conservatives and Republican’s “resent a black man’s presence in the White House”. Based upon what? That past presidents have exercised “prosecutorial discretion”, advocacy of voter-photo identification cards, innocuous statements by Rush Limbaugh and a Republican congressman’s characterization of the Obama Administration as waging a “war on whites”.Continue reading
