Before Andrew Jackson won the presidency in 1828, a “King Caucus” of congressional leaders on Capitol Hill chose party nominees in a tidy, insular way as a tidy, insular National Bank directed national economic affairs for the benefit of wealthy cronies. Having won the popular vote in 1824 only to lose in the Electoral College thanks to the political maneuverings of his King Caucus member opponent Henry Clay, Jackson campaigned relentlessly for expansion of the voting franchise. Turnout rose from 27% in 1824 to 57% in 1828, thus ushering in an Old Hickory to beat down the elites in D.C., so that We the People’s voice could be heard and acted upon to expand our liberty-fueled pursuits of happiness.
Before Barack Obama was inaugurated on January 20, 2009, citizens of the United States hadn’t been subject to a King as Chief Executive since the Battle of Yorktown vanquished the realm of King George III in 1781 in the Thirteen Colonies. Then came illegal deep water oil drilling moratoriums, amendments to Obamacare via executive fiat, a war on coal via illegal EPA regulation promulgation and Dream Acts of illegal amnesty via gross illegal usurpation of legislative power.
Twice, tea partier conservative and other Americans returned Republicans to power in the U.S. House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate to stop Obamacare, Obamanomics and, in short, Obama Democrats’ policies that have chased millions of workers, small businesses and good paying jobs out of the work force while delivering a boom to their Wall Street cronies. Voters expected Speaker John Boehner’s House since 2010 and Majority Leader Mitch McConnell’s Senate since last November’s 2014 mid-term election to at least stop funding and otherwise enabling Obama’s illegal and failed policies.
Yet, even before the newly elected Republicans could be sworn in, Boehner and McConnell formed a Lame Duck Caucus with King Obama to sell out the first 10 months of the New all-GOP Congress with a Cromnibus budget funding Obamacare, the political IRS, failed VA, job-killing EPA, albeit with a promise to “oppose” amnesty. Then, after being sworn, they kill a popular anti-late-term abortion bill to protect murder victims in the womb from pain after the 20th week of gestation and float a gas tax-hike trial balloon..
Betrayals since 2010 continue to mount, no matter how many historic landslides tea partiers deliver to the GOP. Whether this is because Boehner and McConnell still fear government shutdown-blame more than Jews ever feared Hitler or because they secretly favor Big Government and amnesty for cheap foreign labor, matters not.
Liberal Democrats will never be part of the solution to the problems that their policies have wrought. Nor will timid Republicans, but at least the latter can be whipped into voting the right way. But they won’t be so whipped by any Senate or House version.
No, the only way even a GOP-controlled Congress gets whipped into halting the march of totalitarian socialist policies, much less into repealing such laws and to advance policies that liberate Americans, will be after a hickory stick-whipping by one conservative Republican man or woman with courage in the White House, in the tradition of Andrew Jackson.
Hopefully a Rubio, Walker, Jindal, Cruz, Martinez, Haley or Pence can be that hickory-wielding man or woman in 2017. Until then, prepare for the worst.
“One man with courage makes a majority.” – Andrew Jackson
Did I miss the lingering effects of the supposedly disastrous-for-Republicans government shutdown, which was the obvious motivation of Paul Ryan’s November 19, 2013 pre-budget-negotiation-guarantee that, and I quote, “We will keep the government funding at the current level if need be.”
Atta boy Paul, that’s a tough negotiating position…not!
Since the government shut down for 16 days last October, the Democratic Party’s 2014 electoral prospects and President Barack Obama’s approval ratings have plummeted due to the Obamacare website roll-out disaster, cancellation of insurance plans Democrats had promised Americans they could keep, and hikes in policy premiums. Curiously, despite a government shutdown that establishment Republicans feared so much that they betrayed Sens. Ted Cruz (R-TX), Mike Lee (R-UT) and other conservatives attempts to de-fund or delay Obamacare at the 11th hour, GOP prospects for the 2014 election have greatly improved. Continue reading
The Liar-in-Chief is exposed as his signature Obamacare implodes and 720,000 drop out of the workforce in one month.
Insurance policy cancellations and security lapses at HealthCare.gov(when potential victims of identity theft can get the website to “work”) have interrupted the body politic long enough. Time for Democrats to roll out their favorite pets to distract Americans from serial failures while branding Republicans as heartless bigots. The only questions are Continue reading
The only “faction” that controls whether to default, remains president of the United States.
Conservatives should be happy that Speaker John Boehner will agree to a short-term raising of the debt limit while insisting that President Barack Obama and the Democrats compromise over a continuing budget resolution to end the government shutdown.
Not because the former removes the specter of an actual “default”, but rather because it removes any plausible Democratic Party or media (but I repeat myself) allegation that a Republican refusal to raise the debt ceiling could be the cause of any downward market activity before or after the Obama Treasury Department-declared deadline of October 17.
The GOP needs a government shutdown to re-establish GUT-bone fides with the American people.
Republicans should allow President Obama to shut down the government on behalf of his Big Business and government employee friends to whom he has granted exemptions, subsidies and delays.
Soon after his first inaugural in 2009, President Barack Obama demanded that health care reform be passed quickly to ensure a robust recovery and balanced budget, and that it must be done in comprehensive way. Then-Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) insisted the Affordable Care Act should only be read to discover its specifics, after it became law. Having received zero Republican votes, Obamacare became the Law of the Land. Continue reading
For weeks, Charles Krauthammer has trashed the effort led by Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) to defund Obamacare as a “cul-de-sac” strategy because it would inevitably end in a government shutdown-showdown, that Republicans “just can’t” win.
Yet, last night he endorsed the notion of conditioning a hike in the debt limit or a continuing budget resolution on either subjecting federal employees, including congressmen and their staffs, to Obamacare or in a delay of the individual mandate tax or both.
But if President Barack Obama would refuse to compromise and agree to either of Krauthammer’s conditions, where else would that strategy lead but to a cul-de-sac at the end of Government Shutdown Street?
The logical import of any Republican strategy that would always give in to Democrat demands for fear that the GOP “just can’t” win a government shutdown-showdown renders the House impotent as a participant in the separation of government power under the Constitution. Continue reading
Do the Constitution’s separation of powers and concomitant duty to compromise apply to all presidents save for President Obama?
Few things enrage this rooster more than to have our intelligence insulted by vacuous excuses for cowardice from those who know better, yet expect political allies to share their glazed-over looks and accept them as reasoned arguments. So it goes on Sunday political shows and The (Fox News, Special Report) Panel where usually reliable conservatives dismiss, out of hand, the notion that Republicans holding Article I’s power-of-the-purse could force the holder of mere Article II veto-power to compromise on Obamacare to prevent a government shutdown.
The best we can get out of Charles Krauthammer & Co. are combinations of the following: Continue reading
Our young above-it-all president knows best. He will never compromise on the signature achievement of his presidency. He will let the government down permanently if the Republican-adults-in-the-room-House doesn’t “save” us from him. Months will go by and eventually even Social Security checks won’t go out. There will be chaos in the land.
I’m for it.
For millions of us, the chaos is now five+ years old. We the People re-hired the president of Food Stamp Nation anyway. It is clear that there is no chance to restore the economy for at least three more years, when an adult President could be elected. It is clear that if Obamacare is allowed to plant roots for 2-3 more years, it will become a permanent entitlement that will prevent America from ever being exceptional again.
America’s only chance to be fixed is for more Americans to join those that are already part of the new poor-normal so that they can be motivated to fear more Democratic Party rule more than they do their current circumstance. Continue reading
