The President still emphasizes the “credible threat of military action”, but does anyone think Obama won’t seize upon the Russia-Syria WMD proposal as the preferable way out of his red-line corner than congressional vote gambits?
Probably not, and given the character of the man Americans inexplicably re-hired to wield our nukes (and continue to wreck the economy), the Putin proposal that Assad turn over control of its chemical weapons to international monitors is likely the least-worse scenario to “resolve” President Obama’s Syrian debacle, given other likely options. On September 10, 1813, after winning the Battle of Lake Erie at Put-In-Bay, Ohio, thus vanquishing the British Royal Navy from the Great Lakes in the War of 1812, U.S. Commander Oliver Hazard Perry declared: “We have met the enemy and they are ours.”
200 years later, Vladamir Putin’s Russian Navy guards Syria’s bays for Iran. Secretary of State John Kerry previously met Bashar al-Assad and declared him a “reformer”. Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton met Putin and declared a “re-set” before Commander-in-Chief Barack Hussein Obama met Putin-puppet Dmitry Medvedev and declared post-election strategic and nuclear arsenal-surrender “flexibility”; even as he begged to meet with Iran’s mullahs as they mowed down liberty-seeking youth in the streets. Christians, Jews, women, and freedom-loving Muslims await compassion from liberal Democrats who have showered their love on the former Soviet Union, Viet Cong, Sandinistas, Fidel Castro, Yassir Arafat, ‘Reformer’ Assad, Iranian Mullahs, and Sharia-imposing Muslim Brotherhoods.
Poor Americans desiring full-time work for middle class wages would also appreciate some consideration from the food stamp, green energy, gay marriage, amnesty for illegals, Obamacare, contraceptive and race-obsessed re-elected president and his Democratic Party, but I digress.
This admittedly former neo-con, but still U.S. national security hawk, could be receptive to action by our armed forces in Syria to deter and secure weapons of mass destruction given a variety of circumstances and scenarios. After the non-WMD attacks on our American homeland nearly 12 years ago, we considered the removal of serial-WMD-user Saddam Hussein in Iraq, the degrading of Iran’s nuclear program, as well as the elimination of the safe haven-for-al-Qaeda-and-Taliban nation-state in Afghanistan to be post-9/11-imperatives for the U.S. and the Free World generally.
Thanks to the pre-surge ‘stay the course’ persistence of President George W. Bush, congressional Republicans and Democrat-turned-Independent-Senator Joe Lieberman, Iraq was liberated toward a purple-fingered Third Way and Core al Qaeda and the Taliban were decimated. Continue reading
Contrary to the tunnel vision one-note wonders of sports talk media, it wasn’t the Marcus Lattimores and/or Jadeveon Clowneys that defeated their SEC rival Georgia the last three years and their in-state arch rival Clemson for the last four years. No, it was The USC, founded 1801, Fighting Gamecocks.
That’s right, not the Bush Heisman-forfeiting, perennially-on-probation, 1880-founded prophylactic-Southern Cal Trojan brand of whippersnappers that gave us The Juice (before he retired from The Bills to take up murder in L.A.). Rather, it was the Steve Spurrier-coached Palmetto State variety that has gone 11-2 the past two seasons despite annual injuries to the now NFL draft-departed Lattimore; and who also defeated their Tar Heel border-rivals in last week’s season opener despite a mostly sickening performance from their gastronomically-challenged Clowney that Dawgs Coach Mark Richt declared the best football player on Planet Earth (no apologies to Adrian Peterson or J.J. Watt).
Who knew that my Carolina Gamecocks had, not just another defensive end, but at least nine other players who could tackle Research Triangles despite the tar on their heels? Continue reading
If only Democrats celebrated non-government, non-union and non-Obama-crony labor on non-Labor Days.
Five Labor Days after the housing bubble burst in the Fall of 2008 and Democrats’ February 2009 passage of President Barack Hussein Obama’s signature American Recovery and Reinvestment (“stimulus”) Act, less Americans hold jobs this Labor Day than were employed when he was first inaugurated at Noon, January 20, 2009. Long-term unemployment remains the highest since WWII, U-6 underemployment rates remain at Great Depression era levels and the highest percentage of jobs today are part-time than at any time in U.S. history. Did over four months of begging the United Nations to authorize the invasion of Iraq aid in the discovery of the stockpiles of chemical and biological weapons of mass destruction that the U.N. had determined Saddam Hussein had in 1998 and which he had used many times? We didn’t think so.
President Barack Hussein Obama now wants Congress to pre-approve U.S. military action designed to punish the Bashar al-Assad regime for crossing the use-of-WMD “red line” he first drew in Syrian sand on August 20, 2012:
“While I believe I have the authority to carry out this military action without specific congressional authorization, I know that thecountry will be stronger … and our actions will be even more effective” if the strike is authorized by Congress, Obama said Saturday in a televised address from the Rose Garden.
