Vision, Mission, and Strategy

Hillbilly Politics

I’m sure that by now, most of you have heard about First Lady Michelle Obama’s extravagant Spanish vacation. The story that was on the front page of The Drudge Report for days reported that Mrs. Obama’s trip would cost the tax payers around $75,000 per day (during a recession no less)–not to mention, it had photos of her wearing tight spandex leggings and a revealing, inappropriate top. In fact, Mrs. Obama’s vacation seemed so self-indulgent and over the top, that New York Daily News writer, Andrea Tantaros, called her “a modern day Marie Antoinette”.

Ruth Marcus wrote a column responding to Ms. Tantaros. In her column, Marcus conceded that the optics of Michelle Obama’s Spanish getaway might be less than ideal when she wrote the following–

“Let’s stipulate: A five-star resort on the Spanish Costa del Sol was probably not the first choice of White House spin-meisters for a mother-daughter getaway. Especially when the getaway included a posse of 40 friends of the first lady staying at the Hotel Villa Padierna, where rooms start at $330 a night, and photos of Michelle Obama strolling in Marbella wearing an off-the-shoulder number by Jean Paul Gaultier.”

[For the record, that John Paul Gaultier top probably cost over $2000.]

However, Marcus concludes her column by stating that we are all being a little hard on Mrs. Obama, and that maybe we should “give the First Lady a break”.

Well, I might tend to agree with Ms. Marcus if this had been Michelle Obama’s first foray into ridiculous behavior–however, it most certainly is not. Furthermore, if you will all bear with me, I am prepared to bring forth a plethora of evidence that spans back over two years in order to prove–beyond any reasonable doubt–that Mrs. Obama has gone out of her way to deliberately cultivate the image of a spoiled, entitled brat.

Now, let’s all jog our memories back to the Democratic primary. Does anyone remember when Michelle Obama said that, “For the first time in my adult life, I’m really proud of my country?”

I’m sorry, but how bratty and ungrateful can one woman be?! This is a woman who had attended Princeton University, Harvard Law School, was currently married to a US Senator (who himself was currently running for president)–and she was just now proud of her country?! Seriously?!!

Oh, and who could forget during the Democratic primary when she stated that she “would have to think about that” with regard to supporting Hillary Clinton if she became the nominee instead of her husband.

Again, I don’t think that it’s possible to sound much more bratty than that. You think that I’m being a little hard on Mrs. Obama? Well, imagine if in 2012, Sarah Palin was running for president and someone in the MSM asked her if she would support, say, Mitt Romney if she loses. And then, Palin replied to the questioner by stating, “I’d have to think about that”. The media would crucify her and everyone knows it.

And finally, does anyone remember how Michelle Obama would dress her beautiful ten year old daughter, Malia, in dresses to match her’s during the Democratic convention? Well, I personally didn’t have a problem with Mrs. Obama dressing her daughters to match her. However, what should trouble any parent is that her ten year old daughter not once, but on two different occasions wore a low-cut, spaghetti strapped cocktail dress on national TV–just so she would match her mother. (I’m sorry, but that dress is wildly inappropriate for any ten year old girl to wear.)

OK, now I realize that some on our lefty lurkers will be screaming from the rooftops, “But that’s not fair to bring up her kids!”. First of all, I am not judging her daughter (Malia is beautiful)–I’m judging her mother for putting her in two different inappropriate dresses for a child who is ten years of age. Second of all, could any of you imagine if Sarah Palin had dressed her daughters like that for the Republican convention (or if even Chelsea Clinton had worn a dress like that when she was just eleven or twelve)? We would never have heard the end of it! Andrew Sullivan (who is still obsessed with Palin’s gynecological records), Bill Maher, and Sally “the home-wrecker” Quinn (who has implied in the past that Palin is a bad mother for not staying home with her kids) would still be calling her “white trash” to this very day.

Oh, and if any of you are remotely curious, all of Sarah Palin’s daughters were quite demurely dressed for the Republican National Convention.

Now, let’s fast forward to the election of Barack Obama as President of the United States. Does anyone remember that God-awful, off the shoulder, inappropriate gown that Michelle Obama wore to the inaugural ball? It looked like something that Wilma Flintstone would wear. The guys over at The Hillbuzz called it “a yaba daba don’t” and wrote that she should be nominated for TLC’s What Not To Wear.

Moreover, after the inauguration, Michelle Obama’s insensitive, diva-like behavior continued full-throttle. On their first trip to visit the Queen of England, Michelle Obama gave the Queen an iPod and gave Prime Minister Gordon Brown some DVDs that were the wrong format for his English DVD player–and she gave Gordon Brown’s sons two plastic models of Marine One from the White House souvenir shop. (I’m not kidding–could they be any tackier?!) Oh, and it should be noted that Gordon Brown gave Barack Obama a pen carved from the timbers of a 19th century British warship, and his wife bought the Obama’s daughters beautiful dresses from Britain’s most exclusive children’s clothing store.

Oh, and did I mention that Michelle Obama wore a cardigan to meet the queen? Fashion icon Oscar De La Renta put it perfectly when he stated that, “You don’t…go to Buckingham Palace in a sweater.”

Furthermore, does anyone remember that soon after her husband passed a budget busting stimulus bill (because we were in the middle of a “great recession”), Mrs. Obama went to volunteer at a local D.C. food bank wearing $540 (extremely tacky) Lanvin designer sneakers?! Oh, yeah, she really feels your pain. (Can anyone imagine if Laura Bush had done this?!) Oh, and later that same month came the infamous “Broadway date night” when the Obama’s flew to New York at the tax payers’ expense right after GM had filed for bankruptcy and after Barack Obama, himself, had admonished CEOs for taking private jets to Las Vegas.

Then, a few months after those PR disasters, Dana Milbank of The Washington Post reported that Michelle Obama did the following in order to buy fresh kale from a local extremely overpriced farmers’ market (“$19 bison steak from Gunpowder Bison, organic dandelion greens for $12 per pound from Blueberry Hill Vegetables, the Piedmont Reserve cheese from Everson Dairy at $29 a pound”, etc.) —

“The Secret Service and the D.C. police brought in three dozen vehicles and shut down H Street, Vermont Avenue, two lanes of I Street and an entrance to the McPherson Square Metro station. They swept the area, in front of the Department of Veterans Affairs, with bomb-sniffing dogs and installed magnetometers in the middle of the street, put up barricades to keep pedestrians out, and took positions with binoculars atop trucks. Though the produce stand was only a block or so from the White House, the first lady hopped into her armored limousine and pulled into the market amid the wail of sirens.

Then, and only then, could Obama purchase her leafy greens. “Now it’s time to buy some food,” she told several hundred people who came to watch. “Let’s shop!”

However, Michelle Obama was just getting warmed up with her spoiled “I don’t at all feel your pain” act.

Back in May, as unemployment numbers rose to 9.9%, Michelle Obama threw a glitzy state dinner for Mexican President Felipe Calderone (you know, the guy who trashed the state of Arizona on American soil in front of the US House of Representatives)–and, she even brought in her favorite Chicago chef to put together an extremely ostentatious and expensive menu. To be specific, the AP wrote the following about Mrs. Obama turning the White House into “Club 1600 Ave.”–

“R&B diva Beyonce topped the entertainment bill for the dinner, taking place in the East Room of the White House, with the action later moving to a luxury marquee on the South Lawn of the presidential mansion. The marquee, the size of two-thirds of a football field, decked out in elaborate black decor and nightclub-style lighting, featured a stage and baskets of flowers and models of Monarch butterflies dangling from the ceiling.”

[By the way, I think that my colleague, Amy Miller, put it perfectly when she wrote that, “ONE DOES NOT POP, LOCK, AND DROP IT IN THE PRESENCE OF DISTINGUISHED GUESTS.” But, I digress.]

Next came the oil spill, which really gave Michelle Obama the perfect opportunity to finely hone her Marie Antoinette/spoiled brat image. First, came the lavish state dinner to honor Paul McCartney who serenaded Mrs. Obama with the song “Michelle”–and, then proceeded to take a cheap shot at President Bush by stating that, “After the last eight years, it’s great to have a President who knows what a library is”. (I guess Mr. McCartney was unaware of the fact that Laura Bush is a former librarian.) Keep in mind by the way, that this whole spectacle took place as oil was continually pouring into the Gulf of Mexico.

Oh, and when Mrs. Obama finally did go to visit the Gulf Coast, she, literally, wore a dress that was “oil spill chic” (see image below). To quote blogger Doug Powers, “Yikes. That’s like visiting a state that was devastated by a forest fire and arriving in a limo covered with flame decals.” Please, allow me to put this another way. Suppose that Laura Bush had worn a “hurricane chic” dress when she went to visit Katrina victims? I rest my case.

Then, to make matters worse, instead of vacationing at the Gulf Coast in order to, you know, maybe help out the local economy there, the Obama’s instead decided to leave for a posh vacation in Maine the day after Mrs. Obama visited the Gulf Coast in her “oil spill chic” attire. (Not to mention, this wasn’t the first time that the Obama’s thought nothing about hurting part of the US tourist based economy. Remember when Barack Obama told people to “not visit Las Vegas”? Well, people in Las Vegas sure haven’t forgotten about it.)

So, after a long list of examples of egregious, bratty behavior–that spans over two years–we have, now, finally arrived at Michelle Obama’s recent Spanish fiesta, where she has been photographed wearing an extremely overpriced top (during a time of high unemployment) that kind of makes it appear like she’s “letting it all hang out” a bit much for a First Lady representing her country, if you get my drift (see image below). Now, some of you lefty lurkers, again, are going to say that I’m being too hard on Mrs. Obama. Except that I’m not. Remember when Hillary Clinton showed the tiniest bit of cleavage on the Senate floor and the MSM went nuts? The WaPo fashion editor devoted an entire column to Mrs. Clinton’s invisible cleavage (I’m serious–look at the picture in the link–I have NO IDEA what she’s talking about), and implied that it made people “uncomfortable”. However, a First Lady, literally, letting it hang out a bit in a foreign country is OK? Please!

[Oh, and speaking of dressing inappropriately as a First Lady, nothing says, “For the first time in my adult life, I am really proud of my country” like getting off of Air Force One looking like a hung over beach bum/spring breaker. Again, could anyone out there imagine the fallout if Laura Bush had let herself be photographed like that?! But, I digress. Seriously lefties, I can play this game ALL DAY LONG.]

In fact, the optics for Mrs. Obama’s Spanish vacation are so cringe-worthy, that even perpetual Obama apologist, Maureen Dowd, has criticized her recent trip on her husband’s 49th birthday no less. (Not to mention, Democratic strategist, Kirsten Powers, called Michelle Obama’s trip “extremely tone deaf” and then stated that, “I can’t believe that she did it”.) However, the Maureen Dowds and the Ruth Marcuses of the world are partially responsible for Mrs. Obama becoming such a self-absorbed, disgrace as a First Lady. Maybe if guilty, white liberals like them weren’t perpetually making excuses for her, and occasionally told the truth about her (gasp!)–instead of shouting “RAAAAACIST!!” (that’s five A’s) at anyone else who does–then maybe Michelle Obama might be channeling more Elenore Roosevelt right now, and less Lindsay Lohan or Paris Hilton.

In other words, Mrs. Obama’s Spanish vacation isn’t her first foray in insensitive, self-indulgent behavior–it is the last straw in a long line of ridiculous breaches of etiquette, as well as ridiculous outfits (as the embed below demonstrates). This whole Michelle Obama affair is a perfect example of an “emperor has no clothes moment”–or actually, it’s an “the empress has really tacky clothes moment”. Everyone has known for years that Michelle Obama, with her whiny attitude towards America, her sense of entitlement, her ginormous “boob-belts” worn over cardigans, and her insensitivity to the suffering of her fellow Americans, is a total spoiled brat of a First Lady. It’s just that, until now, everyone’s just been afraid to say so for fear of offending Oprah, Maureen Dowd, or getting kicked out of the Manhattan cocktail party circuit.

And hey, I realize that “disgrace” and “spoiled brat” are heavy handed words, but if the way overpriced Lanvin sneaker fits, well….

Put it this way, you reap what you sow and Michelle Obama has not sown a whole lot of good will with the American people. She has made her own bed–it’s time for her to lie in it. (Don’t worry–I’m sure that it’s fitted with the finest of linens.)

PS–I would like to start a charity for the First Lady. I plan on calling it “Find Some Red State Women to be Friends With Michelle Obama”. Why? Because I am convinced that if Mrs. Obama had some friends who were southern belles–like, say, in Steel Magnolias–that she would never go out and about looking so ridiculous (see 1:20 to 1:49 of the embed below to see what I mean). Red state friends don’t let friends go out in public looking silly, and we tell them when they are about to make a giant fool out of themselves. Just sayin’.

Oh Susannah Oh don’t you cry for me….you’ve now proven to me what I have said all along you are RWG ( I mean that as a term of endearment) with too much time on her hands…….where do I start…let’s start with the “spandex and revealing inappropriate top” ….Really……I don’t know what rock you’ve been hiding under but the woman is dressed pretty conservatively and covered up pretty well considering the weather in Spain is approaching 100 degs this time of year…….now the dresses her daughter wore come on….Really….that dress with the spaghetti straps is actually very cute, innocent and not revealing at all……ten year old little girls wear bathing suits and sun dresses all of the time and no one considers it inappropriate……Now for the cost of the hotels….I am sure the secret service had a lot to say about where they stayed and I am sure the secret service picked a place where they could have the best access and was the most secure….as far as the cost of the security no one talks about the cost of the security that follows the Bushes and Clintons around….I am sure the taxpayer paid security at the Clinton wedding cost a pretty penny……I am sure the security that follows the Bush twins around as they party isn’t free either……the security is what comes along with the job and for the rest of their lives….. and maybe the security entourage wouldn’t have to be so big if their hadn’t been so many threats on their lives (more than any other president in modern times ….HMMMMM wonder why that is)…….and as far as the price of her shoes and clothes where ever she wears them……maybe you should launch an investigation to see who paid for them…I think you would find she and her husband buy their own clothes…..Michelle was a lawyer and I am sure she made enough money to be able to buy those shoes…….Jackie Kennedy wore expensive clothes and was considered a “fashion icon”……no one complained about the price of her shoes or dresses………and if you look at Barbara Bush, Hilary Clinton and the other presidents wives, those aren’t off the rack suits they are wearing those are expensive designer clothes they are wearing…….no one questions that……..Susannah you write a lot of interesting post and make some very good points…..but this one points out your need to be critical of the president for no other reason than JUST BECAUSE……..

Black in America Baby…….The Revolution has been televised

  • Susannah says:

Bruce, I think that it’s time that you and me had a little talk. I have been ignoring your insults here for months out of courtesy for Steph (she seems to be able to tolerate you better than the rest of us can), but no more.

First of all, I don’t know what rock you’ve been hiding under, but off the shoulder tops (where part of your boob hangs out) and skin tight leggings are skanky attire for ANY First Lady to wear. Period.

Second of all, yeah, her daughter’s dresses are cute–if you’re trying to dress your kid like Jon Bennet!! However, most respectable mothers wouldn’t dare let their daughters wear a low cut, spaghetti strapped, black cocktail dress on national TV. I mean, I’m in my mid thirties, and if you look at the photo of me with Tim Scott below, I’m showing less skin than Malia is–and she is ten years old! (I’ve linked her photo after mine.)

And yes, little girls wear bathing suits–to the beach. And they wear sundresses (during the day)–that aren’t black and low cut. But they don’t wear low cut, black, spaghetti strapped cocktail dresses out at night. Ever hear the expression “There’s a time and a place for everything?”

And as far as the Clinton’s wedding goes, most of that was on THEIR dime–it wasn’t over $300,000 on the taxpayer’s dime (and that $300,000 mainly consisted of plane rides for Michelle and her entourage, and hotel rooms–not security). Not to mention, that was the wedding of the Clinton’s ONLY daughter, not some unnecessary vacation in a slew of unnecessary vacations. Oh, and if the Obama’s are going to be spending THAT kind of money on vacations during a recession, it should be in the US (particularly on the Gulf Coast)–instead Barack Obama is telling people “not to go to Vegas”.

Oh, and when Hillary Clinton, Laura Bush and Barbara Bush went on over-seas trips, it was always to promote a cause greater than themselves, like breast cancer awareness or women’s rights–it wasn’t to spend hundreds and thousands of dollars boosting the economy of another country while there was a recession going on at home! Furthermore, sure they might have worn designer clothes–but none of them ever wore something as ridiculous or frivolous as $540 sneakers when they were supposed to be volunteering at a food bank (or giant “boob belts” or $2000 off the shoulder shirts)–during a RECESSION no less!

Oh, and Jackie Kennedy probably did spend too much money on clothes–but at least she looked classy, not ridiculous!

And finally, Bruce, I’ve absolutely HAD IT with your playing of the race card. I don’t care if you “mean it as a term of endearment” or not, I find it insulting when you keep perpetually referring to me as, “A rich white girl with too much time on her hands”. Oh, and I’m also sick to death of you implying that I don’t like the Obama’s because I’m a “RAAAAACIST!!”. You’ve been doing it for months now and I’ve let you get away with it–like for instance, writing that I’m “critical of the president just because”. Don’t think that I don’t know what you’re doing. Furthermore, I know for a fact that most of our regular readers are sick to death of your race-baiting. So, I’m warning you that I’m not as patient and sweet as Steph is–and that my patience with you has run out! If you play the race card on here ONE MORE TIME, that’s it–I’m banning you. Please tell me in your next post that you understand and that you are sorry–otherwise, sayonara.

PS–I really think that you should watch the Jon Stewart video in the link below, because he explains that “the race card is now maxed out”. Oh, and it’s officially, as of now, maxed out here too. Consider yourself warned.

  • StephC says:

Bruce, are you being your normal racist little self again? Actually, Susannah’s right. Michelle is acting like a spoiled brat. Year after year, the Democrats say to us they feel our pain but here she is flaunting wealth and privilege while Congress and her husband cut food stamps to people who have lost their jobs, just to provide stupidities to unions and their members.

Oh, sorry, that’s right. You’re black so you can’t be racist, unlike that crazy lady up the street from me who called me a cracker b*****. Oh but she’s black, too, so I’m sure it must have just been some mistake, right? It just can’t be that way.

Keep it up if you want. Susannah can ban your butt if you aggravate her too much.

  • StephC says:

Hey,Susannah, you wouldn’t happen to have an accurate count on how many vacations and what not the Obamas have had collectively would you? I mean, when does the man ever find time to work with golf, vacations, basketball, and the perpetual campaign? No wonder the country is in such a mess.

The problem is, Obama doesn’t want to be President. He merely wants to play one on TV. The actual duties of one hold no interest to him.

  • JadedByPolitcs says:

Oh looky you MUST be right about the Obamas because the ONLY CARD left for the tools too stupid to think on their own is the race card. I guess the left didn’t get the memo IT DOESN’T WORK anymore 😆 . It has been sprayed and spittled all over America and America cleaned up the mess and refused to be bowed by the RACE CARD!

  • Susannah says:

Yay!–It’s my girl Jaded right on cue. Jaded, no one puts it better than you. Hear, hear–well said! 😛

Take care, and it’s great to see you commenting here.

    X0X0, Suzi

  • Bruce says:

Wow……..First of all let me say that I feel quite honored that you finally acknowledged that I exist and answered me….(I must have said something right)………Now every one let’s stop for a minute and take a deep breath……IN…….OUT……IN…..OUT…….OK………Now let’s get to a few things…..I DON’T PLAY THE RACE CARD……..Yes I talk about race, but you also do it all of the time……There is a earlier post on the “Black Panthers”, by the way who are just as relevant as the KKK……(in case you didn’t get the implication neither one of them are very relevant in this day and age)…Your post on Jon Stewart Involves some conversation about race………(I could go on but I think you get the point)….. The first time I stumbled across and had an interaction with StephC and the group at HangRight politics was because THEY were having a conversation about race……..Just because I disagree with your point of view doesn’t make me racist as StephC called me….I HAVE NEVER CALLED YOU, ANY ONE HERE OR AT HANGRIGHT RAAAAACIST!……Yes I make comments like RWG or “typical white people” (I’ve been using that term since Obama referred to his grandmother in that fashion and everyone made such a big deal of it)…..I have friends that are White, Asian, Hispanic, or yeah and Black, (and they have been my friends for a long time) that I make similar comments to when we have discussions that concern race (by the way they make similar comment to me) and no one gets offended…….I think we all understand that it sometimes takes a little “color” to get your point across….. maybe it doesn’t come across in type the same way it comes across in person ..I know I walk a fine line between getting my point across and being offensive but please believe me I try to stay “right” of that line and not offend but at least make you think…..I think one of the biggest problems in this country is that people with opposing views have a very hard time discussing race without getting offended or offending each other…………SO WITH THAT SAID I OFFENDED YOU, I SINCERELY APOLOGIZE AND I WILL DO MY BEST NOT TO DO IT AGAIN……..but I don’t understand (as you know I am a simple man)……….Isn’t this America…… you know free speech and all that…….Am I not allowed my opinion……….Just like you……If you decide to ban me then so be it…..but I know it would be a great loss to me( I have enjoyed people I have met on these two sites especially BigMo I miss him) and I believe it would be one to you also………….because then your posts just becomes a one-sided conversation where everyone just pats each other on the back…….and where is the fun in that…….

Black in America Baby…….The Revolution has been televised

  • StephC says:

Bruce, we’ve gone over and over your little signature tagline. It’s like a slap in the face, especially when coupled with your “typical white person” and RWG snarkiness.

All things considered, however, you go right ahead and keep that little snark and when Obama continues to utterly fail and the Democrats/Statists that control him start blaming him for everything coupled with their mentality that black people can’t do a damn thing without their help, you just remember this, okay?

Remember who really keeps you down and out and helpless because they’ll do that to save their own necks, just like they’re delivering all the crooked black Congressmen to the ethics panel in the hopes that nobody will look their way so the other crooks can continue to try to use the race card. You’re only important to them as long as you can be used.

  • Susannah says:

Bruce, I find it to be really rich that you claim not to play the race card, but then you call me “a rich white girl with too much time on her hands (repeatedly)” and you have the following sig line–

“Black in America Baby…….The Revolution has been televised.”

Furthermore, you just proved my point that you view EVERYTHING through a racial prism when you claimed that I “talked about race” when I wrote about the black panthers. If you had actually read those posts, you would see that they were about criminals not being prosecuted for VOTER INTIMIDATION when it was a slam dunk case–the fact that you thought that it was about race speaks volumes. This may come as a shock to you Bruce, but I would have been every bit as angry if two white Bubbas were intimidating black voters–and were caught on video tape–and Obama’s incompetent DOJ dropped the case on them after they were already convicted (and I said as much in my post if you had read it–see link below). Not to mention, there is a huge difference between writing about corruption in the DOJ that deals with criminals that happen to be black, and calling me “A rich white girl with too much time on her hands”. if you can’t see that, then you are not worthy of my time.

Oh, and by the way, the candidate that I blogged the most about for the entire year and supported the heaviest this year is an African-American named Tim Scott (you can see a link to a photo of me with him below).

And finally, the reason that I’ve never responded to you before, is because I knew that it would wind up just like this–with you totally threadjacking and crapping all over my post and turning it into a racial diatribe, which you have done with our other readers in the past. (See link below.)

Oh, and in that above link, you implied that I was a racist who didn’t like Obama because he was black when you said the following–

“Susannah’s articles are always well written I still think she is a RWG (rich white girl) with too much time on her hands….I can understand her opposition to the president but she is to the point that to her there is even something with the way his heart beats….”

Oh, and this time, you wrote, “But this one points out your need to be critical of the president for no other reason than JUST BECAUSE……..”—again, implying that I’m racist.

Bruce, I have so had it up to here with your BS that it’s not even funny. I have never responded to you before because I didn’t want to get sucked into your race-baiting vortex–like I am now (congratulations, you have won and have ruined this thread and manged to rid it of any real intellectual discussion).

Anyway, I cautiously accept your apology, but know this–THIS IS YOUR LAST CHANCE. If you so much as imply that I have ANY racist/racial motivations in the future, call me “A rich white girl”, etc.–you’re gone. Get it, got it, good.

This, now, officially ends this ridiculous conversation on race!

  • Susannah says:

Oh, one thing that might interest you Bruce, and the other readers here, is that a liberal blog wrote a column criticizing Michelle Obama and making many of the EXACT SAME points that I made here in my column. I posted a comment (it’s number 20) on it and the author responded to me by writing the following–

” Susannah, just goes to show that common sense is non-partisan! Bad behavior and is bad behavior, no matter what political party.”

Here is the link to the column–

Oh, but I guess that she is a racist too, or is “criticizing the Obamas just because….”

    I rest my case.

  • Bruce says:

Here is my definition of “PLAYING THE RACE CARD”……..”I can’t get a job because I am Black and the white man is keeping me down”……..”The only reason I didn’t get that promotion is because I am Black” ………..”All my problems are because of those racist white people”……..You have never heard me blame any problems or issues on “THE MAN”………Again I talk about race but I don’t play the victim I don’t play the race card, I take responsibility for my actions and accept the outcome…….I live a pretty “typical white” life (remember a term of endearment)…….I live in a mostly white neighborhood, I attend a mostly white church The biological mother of my youngest daughter who is adopted is white……most of my colleagues at works are white………. my three golf buddies are white……..and I dated a few white women in my days…….. Yes I use terms like typical white people and RWP and make jokes like “you eat chicken like white people” (you can ask me about that if you want)……. If you were to ask any of these people if I was a racist I think you would get a resounding NO and My friends, family and colleagues don’t think I “view EVERYTHING through a racial prism”……..Like I said maybe it doesn’t come across the same in print……And yes I did read the post on the Black Panthers and I understood what it was about and I agree with you about a lot of what was said but I guess saying “the nice you man Mr. Holder let off the hook is actually a raving racist who “hates crackers” and wants to “kill all of their babies” is not talking about race….that is all I said you did was speak about race in the post……..and I can’t count the times you have used your “RAAAAAAAACIST” term……….Oh yes the “just because” statement I made…yeah I gotta throw that one out every now and then….that goes back to the hang right days….I was asked for reasons why I was such a supporter of Obama and I numbered and listed about 7 reasons……The last on was “Just because” he was Black. Now I listed what I thought were six other good reasons and threw in the last as just kind of tongue and cheek and it seemed like that was all that anyone saw……so I have to “poke the chicken” with that one…and besides I could have been saying it was Just because he was a democrat…or a man….you just assumed I was talking about race………(joking OK)……..and as far as me “threadjacking and crapping all over my post”………I did complement you and say your “articles are always well written”……and there were 34 comments made….I thought that is what this blogging thing was suppose to be about the debate not just one or two comments patting each other on the back…”great post”……”I agree with you”…….”you said it right”….kinda boring huh……maybe it was that debate class I had in high school……So with that once again I apologize……….I have never called you nor do I think you are a RAAAAAAAAACIST…………I actually do have a lot of respect for you and others here….and if you dig through my comments enough you will see that I have said that……….Thank you for letting me hang out…….

Black in America Baby ……The revolution has been televised

(Can you at least allow me the sig line please, sorry I can’t help myself I think its from growing up in the 60’s)

  • Susannah says:

Fine Bruce–you can keep your sig line. Please, just no more “RWG with too much time on her hands”, or “you dislike the president just because…”, or “you don’t like the way the president’s heart beats in his chest”, etc. If you can do that, then we’ll be OK. 😉

  • StephC says:

Bruce, you could just pretend he’s white considering he’s about 3/4 white. Arabs are Caucasians, too, ya know, which would make his Dad half-white/half black, so Obama would be only 1/4 black.

Maybe if you’d do that, you could debate the actual issues instead of trying to paint everyone around as racists.

  • Steve says:

Wow!! I can see I’ve been away for too long!

Susannah, as Bruce admitted, you are an excellent blooger. Your posts are well researched, informative, and entertaining. You also happen to be quite a looker…but that’s a personal – not professional – observation. 🙂

Keep doing the great job you do!

Ah Bruce…Bruce Bruce Bruce Bruce Bruce. Remember me? Your fellow Black – but much more conservative, and therefore, sensible blog buddy.

Bruce, this is an intervention! Your have a Race problem. This isn’t just some form of entertainment for you. You have a problem.

Wanna know how you can tell? “I can’t help myself I think its from growing up in the 60’s” That’s not a cute throw away attempt at humor. It’s a look into your sociological make up. It’s a subconscious effort to excuse your blatantly racial remarks. You use deflection, projection, and obfuscation, in a sort of, “What did I do to piss you off? You’re the one who started it.”

Love your posts but this stuff has gotta stop bro! The 60s are over. Please, for your own sanity, . admit you have a problem and let it go.

I’m a child of the 60’s too. Born in ’65. But notice, I didn’t vote for Obama – not because he’s black but because he’s arrogant and clueless (a dangerous combination).

Steve, it’s so great to see you back here!! Please don’t stay away so long next time. Hillbillypolitics is nothing without it’s excellent and insightful commenters, like yourself.

Take care, and have a nice Sunday. 😛

Suzi, I’m so thankful you’re at HBP! You’re truly integral member of this blog. In short, you ROCK!! 🙂

I won’t be gone so long from now on. My schedule is still pretty full but I’ve missed you all (even Bruce, he too can be an important voice on this site) very much and don’t plan to let that happen again.

  • StephC says:

Steve!!!!! (I don’t have my squishy squashy hugs smilee on hand but if I did…)

We keep trying to debate issues but Bruce just doesn’t want to debate issues. I know he’s a liberal and that’s okay if he wants to debate from a liberal point of view but he seems stuck on race.

  • Susannah says:

Thank you so much Steve–and I’m so glad that you are back! It will be nice to have someone else, besides me and Steph, blogging here (in other words, a male contributor will be a nice addition).

Take care, and I will look forward to hearing more from you.

    WHAT…….I don’t count……I’m not quite sure how I should take this……….

  • Susannah says:

Bruce, you are a commenter–which is great–we value all of our commenters here. However, Steve is a contributor/writer for Hillbillypolitics (or will be). That’s all that I meant–that it will be nice to have a male writer here besides me and Steph.

    Take care. 🙂

    Sincerely, Susannah

I am more than willing to contribute as a writer you just let me know……..

You know I luv ya bro…….welcome back and don’t be such a stranger……….but tell me when did you get a degree in sociology or psychology………Yes I did mean that to be humorous and nothing else……..It was a very conscious effort to bring a little levity in the conversation………”deflection, projection, and obfuscation”…….come on bro you know I am a simple man….I had to go and look up a couple of those words to see what they meant………..especially that last one how do you pronounce that…….I’m not that deep…….Look Steve……I didn’t call anybody names……I apologized for what I said that angered Susannah…….(and I sincerely meant that apology)…………As I explained before I am the same with my family, friends, church, job, and golf buddies………and none of them think I have a race problem…….or at least none of them have told me that……… maybe they are afraid of me…..You know big black guy striking fear into the hearts of “ white” America……did you find that humorous or was that just more ob-fus-ca-tion………..You gotta lighten up a little….The bible says, ”thou preparest a table before mine enemy”…… I don’t consider anyone here my enemy………but how can you know what you believe/think is right (or wrong) if you don’t have anything to compare it to or bounce it off of…..whether it comes across or not I do listen to and respect opinions here…….. that’s why I comment here ….but I don’t have a race problem Yes I do push buttons sometimes and yes I do talk about race……. some how the subject does come up and I am not always the one bringing it up……. And its a conversation that should be had as long as it is a healthy one………….

Black in America Baby……..The revolution has been televised

By the way I said I grew up in the 60’s I didn’t say I was born in the 60’s maybe that’s where you are missing it……….

  • Steve says:

This is my favorite part of Bruce’s rebuttal: “As I explained before I am the same with my family, friends, church, job, and golf buddies………and none of them think I have a race problem……”

Reminds me of the famous quote attributed to film critic Pauline Kael, “I don’t know how Nixon won. No one I know voted for him.” 😆
