Thomas Sowell has a great article this morning over at Townhall. But then, Thomas Sowell almost always has great articles. I suggest you read the entire thing without conservative or liberal ideological blinders on.

Fifth paragraph in:

We seem to be moving steadily in the direction of a society where no one is responsible for what he himself did but we are all responsible for what somebody else did, either in the present or in the past.

Everything seems to be someone else’s fault. Okay, even if it is, so what?  Is it going to change your life one iota to blame it on somebody else? Only if, once you assign blame, you learn the lesson being taught instead of wallowing in the blame pool.

What does “economic justice” mean, except that you want something that someone else produced, without having to produce anything yourself in return?

Perhaps the way President Obama will reduce the deficit is by making more presidential appointments of people who will pay the back taxes they owe, in order to get confirmed by the Senate.

Liberals seem to think that they are doing lagging groups a favor by making excuses for counterproductive and self-destructive behavior. The poor do not need press agents. They need the truth. No one ever said, “Press agents will make you free.”

If I were Secretary of the Treasury Timothy Geithner, I would not sign any long-term lease on a home in Washington.

Socialists believe in government ownership of the means of production. Fascists believed in government control of privately owned businesses, which is much more the style of this government. That way, politicians can intervene whenever they feel like it and then, when their interventions turn out badly, summon executives from the private sector before Congress and denounce them on nationwide television.

One of the things that bugged me most about the “Tour” and the G-20 summit is how so many people seemed to be laughing and smiling because they got away from all of it without having to take responsibility for any of it. Obama got a celebrity’s welcome but little else, however, the celebrity welcome is enough that he’ll be able to spin it into a win.

There are some things you cannot redefine. The war on terror is one of them. No matter what semantical games you play to allay people’s fears, some will still be killed by Islamic terrorists. But, of course, that’s our fault for being arrogant, you know. We’re changing. Yes, we are!

Others have posted articles about Obama’s apologizing for America so I won’t go into detail about it. Suffice it to say, some people don’t know the difference between debasement and humility. Whether he likes it or not, the U.S. has been put in the position of guardian of everyone else in the world, most especially Europe. They haven’t stepped up, manned up, or whatever you call it because that’s not their responsibility anymore. They abdicated it. They also abdicated any responsibility for helping allies as Bush evidenced during the 9/11 tragedy and for Iraq and he has been villified for his “with us or against us” comment.

If the fact that if America fails, Europe fails makes us a little arrogant, well so what? Shoot us for being imperfect humans. We have warts just like every other country but we’ll still stand strong against the enemies of liberty. We have nothing to apologize for unless/until Europe lives up to its own responsibilities and I am ashamed that President Obama felt the need to debase his own country to secure personal adulation from European nations. Adulation without respect is very fleeting and the U.S. will pay the price just as we’ve paid the price at home for government takeover of businesses.

I would say the Republic is dead but it isn’t. The soul of this country still thrives and it’s becoming ever more apparent that the scales are falling off eyes when there are tea parties galore coordinated to take place on a single day. I’ll be at the here but not for the entire time. I have to pick up my grandson from preschool by 1:30 and that’s a responsiblity I can’t abdicate.
