Perhaps government can't fix it: although several (all?) countries that do have managed to spend far less per capita than we. I won't even go into where we stand in terms of health measurement (it ain't good). Big pharma/big insurance/big hospitals have driven us to the mess....and they ain't gonna fix it.
I can refuse to buy a car, or a big mac...but health insurance isn't really an option. You know of course, that of the 700.000 bankruptcies this year, half were related to people losing their homes do to serious illness...and that half of those had good health insurance. Good? No wonder 60% of folks want single payer. No wonder over 50% of doctors want single payer. If there is a better answer, I haven't seen it. Gotta go write a $1200 check for the wife's lab tests that my insurance company informs were 'not covered'. I'm starting to think it is a racket....not a business!

BB, I can understand that. However, you should also think about the concept that doing something isn't always better than doing nothing. It really depends on what the something is.

Obama and Congress want to completely overhaul the health system for a government takeover, while at the same time claiming that Medicare/Medicaid is broke, and rejecting anything short of a government takeover. They can't manage anything they've done so far without requiring ever more cash to throw into the government created fire.

TennCare was Tennessee's solution in the same vein. It went broke... so broke that it swallowed a budget surplus and gaped for more which resulted in people being kicked off and the rest rationed.

The rationale used is: The insurance companies do it, too. Not much of a rationale because you can choose not to pay money to an insurance company and take that money and put it into a HSA (Health Savings Account) instead. With the government you won't have a choice and you'll still be rationed.

And look at some of the things government has done, from the state level up. How many insurance companies can you choose from in your state?

And ask yourself the simple questions such as: If it's so good why are unions and government employees excepted?

And finally, no matter how much money you have to spend on saving your life in the end, it won't be enough because you will eventually die. Money didn't help Ted Kennedy or anyone else with the resources he had when their number is up.

You can choose what seems to be the easy path, a supposed free ride on the government. It's only taxes after all and you won't miss them... much. It's a slow bleed, right? No one can stop you if that's what you really want. However, what happens when the ride costs more than you were told it would cost? A slow bleed can weaken you before the next blow ends it all.

I have paid health insurance bills all my rather long life. Now, they are incredibly expensive and the fine print covers little in actuality. I have seen our manufacturing sector go from 38% GDP down to 12% GDP during this time, and the healthcare business increase from 7% to 17% of GDP. I believe this is a very serious problem, Obama or no Obama...Beck or no Beck. HB, ya kin put me in whatever category...cranky, owly, concerned, upset, persnickity

Yup, “The sycophants are those who keep making excuses for a guy who can’t do anything but talk; who thinks all he has to do is say something end everybody will be falling all over themselves to do it for him.” ..describes Mr. Beck.

Really? How about some examples?

I can, and have given, give you examples of Obama doing nothing but talking. Instead of working on issues, when the polls start sliding he goes on the campaign trail to talk to people while somebody else writes a bill he doesn't read but claims must be passed immediately to avert a crisis. There are only so many times people will listen to the cry of crisis... well... except for the most gullible. Shall I include you in that category?

.pretty much sums up the Beck sycophants, does it not?

Gee, where do I start? Perhaps with: Look in the mirror? The sycophants are those who keep making excuses for a guy who can't do anything but talk; who thinks all he has to do is say something end everybody will be falling all over themselves to do it for him. Where was he when Van Jones said the things he said? And now there's the National Endowment for the Arts.

In fact, where are you? Just like you asked where we were with Bush and we told you but you didn't want to hear it, now I'm asking where are you with Obama?

Yes, blame the messenger. It's better than facing reality, isn't it?

Bruce, I just came back from a family visit wherein I found out I was a whole lot more Cherokee than I knew. Keep playing the race card. When everything falls apart, it's not going to be white against black or against any other race. It's going to be a fight for freedom. If you want reparations why don't you start by looking in the mirror and look to see what you can do for yourself instead of looking to everybody else for acceptance?

Obama doesn't care about you and what he's doing isn't about race. It's about control. He and the other Democrats already control you, though. You never left their plantation. What do you think this is all about? Think about it. We have all these Democrats willing to take from everyone else to support them in the style to which they've become accustomed and you're a willing slave for them to exploit. That's not what government should be about. We have lived through feudalism before with others deciding for their subjects. I'm not inclined to live it in this time.

As for the speech, it wasn't about the speech but the direction given for after the speech. The education system is not a place for that kind of crap. If he wants to indoctrinate he can do it on his own time and his own money, not ours.

Oh...Susannah.....don't you cry for me.....I'm going to....excuse me I'm sorry what was I thinking (singing).......you know Susannah I am a simple man.....I find it kind of curious that conservatives are making such a big deal over the president making this speech to school children…Yeah I ignored what you said about the national endowment of the arts who cares……Conservatives said that students should boycott the speech and the president is trying to influence our children…I guess when George Bush number one gave a similar speech and said very similar things he wasn’t trying to influence our children…..This is a perfect example of the fear mongering among the conservatives….. You said “Furthermore, it should be noted that no other past president has ever proposed this kind of “lesson plan” when speaking to school children.”…..Well because no one has done it before does that make it wrong?.....Or is it wrong just because its Obama………..Well as a Black man I hope that every Black child in America saw that speech and took it to heart…….and you conservatives can “cling” to your fears……..

Black in America Baby……..The revolution has been televised…..My president is Black…..Is that Black enough for you…….

I suppose it's time to school the troll.

First, do you know the difference between secret and self-avowed? If so, it makes your comment even stupider than it already is.

You and McCarthy have something in common: both loony. However, no matter how loony McCarthy was or how crazy he often sounded history tries to forget: He Was Right. You on the other hand are crazy and wrong.

All kidding aside, half-witted ideologues are a dime a dozen.

Did you include yourself in that description? Looking in the mirror perhaps?

Eighty-six years ago, Hitler attempted to arouse the anger of his fellow Germans by spouting half truths and utter nonsense – exactly what Glenn Beck is doing in 2009. So much of the insane dialogue that has been spewed forth at these Town Hall meetings across the country in recent weeks might have been lifted straight from a transcript of Beck’s program.

So, what you're saying here is that you don't believe the evidence of your own eyes and ears. Video after video has been shown with both pictures and words but, of course, it's not true. Never in a million years in spite of the evidence, right?

The problem for you is: We told you this was going to happen. You and others like you made excuses; said he didn't mean it like that. Wanted the rest of us to follow along because he would be a "post-racial president." He isn't a post- anything. His administration is less diverse than that of that president you hate so much.

Some of you are dumb enough to keep trying to make excuses and some of you are just plain dumb enough to believe whatever you're told as long as you can keep dragging everyone else down into the misery pit with you. Which one are you?

Wanted the rest of us to follow along because he would be a “post-racial president.” He isn’t a post- anything. His administration is less diverse than that of that president you hate so much.

Some of you are dumb enough to keep trying to make excuses and some of you are just plain dumb enough to believe whatever you’re told as long as you can keep dragging everyone else down into the misery pit with you. Which one are you?
