I’m beginning to think I’d rather watch soap operas.

At least I know with soap operas they’re fake but I can’t handle any more fake news.

Free Republic has uncovered something I suspected but hadn’t looked into yet.

Folks, I can’t say enough: The media is not your friend. They lie as easily as breathing.

We have an opportunity to do something great this election. If you’re really sick of politics as usual in Washington and your respective states, move away from the media soundbytes and really dig into the candidates’ histories and decide for yourself. Don’t let the media choose the next president or even your local mayor. If you really want change, then make a change in how you decide for whom to vote.

Use this site and fact check everything that is said in debates, in political ads, and anywhere else. This site is also linked on the left sidebar and has been for awhile. I don’t remember who said it but it’s been making the internet rounds: “Anyone who lies to get a job will lie on the job.”

Here’s another great expose on Luntz’s focus group.

I repeat: The media is not your friend.

Update: Michelle Malkin has picked up on this and added some input.

Dr. Luntz is hardly MSM..he is a word doctor, a spin-meister and a marketer. That’s what he does. And it has been noted previously..”Luntz has been accused of skewing research results to reflect more favorably on specific clients.[citation needed] In 1997, he was reprimanded by the American Association for Public Opinion Research[13] and in 2000 he was censured by the National Council on Public Polls.[14]” at Wiki’s Frank Luntz bio. IMHO, focus groups suffer the usual problems of group dynamics…the loudest ain’t necessarily the rightest. :)

Yet, the media continue to use him, which in itself is telling.

Nice catch, BB, I think full disclosure would be the best recourse for FOX at this point.

Steph I agree that the media has it’s own agenda and it’s frustrating to democracy. Agenda driven/agenda hidden media is stinking up the process and it’s time we as a country acknowledge that a huge part of the brokenness of our government is due to the failed diligence of our media.

I don’t know if full disclosure would do a lot of good right now, Kathy, but they can try.

Remember the yellow journalism post I wrote? The media always has the most power in any election because we’re dependent upon them to get the information. The internet is changing that but not enough fast enough.

I really agree with you. The media clearly loves to inject spin in particular story to fit their narrative. I think Frank Luntz is an easy target, but there are others as well. You definitely always want to ask yourself: “what is going on outside the box? what is it that I am NOT seeing?”

AnonC’s “I think Frank Luntz is an easy target, ..” is best exemplified by Penn & Teller’s reposte here:

I can remember who said that quote – The Huckster. Ugh.
