Viva La Mexico

If I were Calderon, I would be ashamed to admit:

Mexican President Felipe Calderon has called the idea of building the fence “deplorable,” and said today on “Good Morning America” that he wanted to strengthen the Mexican economy to keep Mexicans there.

“Let me tell you, I think that the only way to stop migration is to provide to the people opportunities here in Mexico,” Calderon said in an exclusive interview with Diane Sawyer.

The Pew Research Center estimated that about 6.2 million undocumented Mexicans lived in the United States in 2005.

A majority of the Mexicans who cross the border are young and male. And while many of the immigrants come to the states seeking jobs and security, a large number of them already were employed in their native country.

Their goal is to make money in America and to send it back home and into the Mexican economy. The transaction is a huge boost to Mexico’s economy, providing $20 billion a year in additional funds.

Calderon said having the youngest, strongest and bravest leaving the home country and their families take a huge toll on Mexico.

Calderon told Sawyer that some of his own relatives live and work in the United States- “some of them in the vegetable fields, others in restaurants and others in construction,” he said.

He’s the President of Mexico? Coulda fooled me. Update: And if all else fails, there’s always the race card: Ex-Mexico Prez: Racists Stop Immigration

In addition to that, there’s this:

Immigration strategies taking shape

and this:

Poll: Spanish Spoken Here — and Two-thirds Don’t Mind

Spanish speaking in the United States is widespread and accepted by most Americans. But a third who experience this language difference are troubled by it — and they have distinctly more negative attitudes about immigrants and Hispanics generally.

Don’t let the beginning paragraph fool you. There are more telling statements in the last half of the article… I guess that’s why they’re on the second page instead of the first. The media and the government will never get it, never ever. I’ve given up on them having the brains to get it.

It ain’t about immigration, morons. It’s about illegal immigrants coming here and draining the system while you idiots call for more and more taxes. I suppose it’s their way of making us a victim class whether want to be or not.

To be honest, I have more trouble with immigrants of the Middle East than I do with hispanics… even legal ones, that is. When I read stuff like this: Thanks but No Thanksgiving, I get a little steamed. If they can’t bend their culture to accommodate other cultures to the point they must insult other cultures in the process, then they just need to leave.  There’s a whole wide world out there that will cowtow to them… with the exception of Australia which is realizing that some cultures will never mix well. I wish the U.S. could learn that lesson as well.

Will International Law Trump Our Sovereignty?…

It will if President George Bush has anything to do with it.
We already knew that this administration is ready to hand our national sovereignty over to Mexico but did you ever think it would come by way of the International Court of Justice?
    That&#82…

We have been the nanny state for Mexico for too long. Until we cut that apron string, and all of the entitlements that go with it, Mexico will never stand on its own. Calderon is no more of a leader than Vicente Fox was. Their only interest is how to completely shirk their responsibility to the people of their nation and so the U.S. will adopt them.

Would Calderon retain a government position such as governor? If so, it’s not worth the effort.
